Why renting a boat in the Costa Brava is a must activity for your visit
The Costa Brava is filled with some of the most spectacular sights and landscapes in the world. I understand, we are a little biased, as this is our home and we are extremely proud and delighted with the beauty this area offers. However, it must be said that many who visit have the same response.
One of the ways to really enjoy the beauty is by boat. Seeing the Costa Brava from, well, the ‘costa’ – is simply magical.

Rent a boat and take in the magnificent rock formations, snorkel in the crystal blue waters and visit caves and other nooks like beaches you wouldn’t even know were there as you can’t reach them by land. You simply cannot get tired of letting the wind rush through your hair as you glide across the waves with the sunshine and your fabulous company on board.
Check out the architecture and spectacular old villas that still stand on the jugged rocks as you take in the sea air. Turn around to see the horizon and perhaps even visiting dolphins (yes, we have seen them!) in the early hours of the morning. The waters of the Costa Brava are a sight in themselves, look down into the turquoise shallows to enjoy shoals of fish (as well as those that jump!) and snorkel down into the gaps in the rocks for marvels you will never forget.
Then, of course, you can simply bob in a private boat with your preferred company on the mediterranean sea as you watch the villages from afar, almost like a picture book you are appreciating from another dimension.

A trip on the water by boat in the Costa Brava will no doubt be a highlight and one of the most memorable discoveries of your stay.
What kinds of boats are available?
Really, the world is your oyster – there are many types of boat you can rent in the Costa Brava and the majority can be for half a day or full day rental.
You can find ribs and small speedboats which are ideal for heading in and out of caves and pottering along, close to the coast. Ideal for small groups but, if you have a larger group, why not consider renting a number of boats that you can always group together when you stop for a snorkel!

Then you have medium sized speedboats which would often need to come to a captain (unless, of course you have your license to drive such boats – get in touch with us if you need further information). These are ideal for families and groups of friends enjoying some quality time together. You can even include add-ons such as banana boats, donuts, water skis and much more to make your trip on the water even more dynamic. Allow the captain to explain and talk you through the sights on the water as you relax and find freedom in the breeze and the waves.

Larger boats are also available for big groups or for those who are looking for more space and comfort from their boat trip. Boats of a larger size are often not available for half days and should be booked well in advance to ensure availability and seamless boarding/trip planning.

Add-ons
With many companies in the area you can add fun activities such as snorkel, donut, water ski and even add a paddle board to your boat so you can head off into the caves. Whatever your vision for your day trip out, we can make it happen.
Gastronomy – we can organise snacks, drinks, ‘aperetivo’.. and even full meals on board such as barbecues and paellas with the providers to make the day out complete.
Some boats offer unique experiences on board such as wine tasting / local prawn tasting
Fishing is a fabulous activity for groups and families – enjoy the calm of the early morning and take home your catch!
Mooring and lunch reservations – book your boat through us and we will reserve you a restaurant table free of charge.

Tips and hints
We help you book your boat so take note of a few things we learnt along the way and get in touch with us so you don’t have to think about them!
- Book the boat towards the beginning of your journey in case of weather and/or bad sea conditions then you always have time to reschedule.
- Many boat companies will ask for a deposit which you can generally pay in person by credit card.
- It is always worth getting a skipper, even if you have your license, as they can plan the best routes as well as explain things on your journey.
- Bigger boats cannot often get close to the caves and small bays for snorkelling so bear that in mind when choosing the size of the boat.
- In our opinion, it is always better to rent your boat from the morning – as quite often the wind picks up midday, meaning the afternoons can be choppier
- Make sure the boat has shade, especially in the hot months of July and August.
- Reserve your boat with plenty of time
- Book your boat through Mia Costa Brava – we offer the same prices as you find online and we are a constant point of contact for you, can negotiate rates and ensure add-ons are organised as well as assist with payment processes and recommend the right provider and boat for your brief – saving you lots of time and research!
